Privacy Statement

This Privacy Statement generally describes the privacy practices for the M2C2 App. By using the M2C2 App, you are consenting to our collection, use, and sharing of information in accordance with this Privacy Statement.

What data the app collects

When using the M2C2 App, we collect information from the answers you provide to the in-app survey questions as well as your performance on various cognitive tests. The survey questions vary but include topics such as when you woke up, how well you slept, if you are outside or inside a building, and how distracted you currently are. The cognitive tests are short graphical games that measure reaction time and memory. For example, some games ask you to match pairs of shape as quickly as you can, and others show you the position of shapes on a screen and then ask you to recall the positions later. The app records the speed and accuracy of your responses to these tasks. In addition to the data you directly provide, the M2C2 App also collects information from your device, including the type of device and operating system, and the dates and times the app is used.

How the app collects data

The survey questions are collected using your responses recorded through regular user interface controls, such as checkboxes, drop-down lists, radio buttons, text boxes, and slider controls. The cognitive tests collect data by measuring screen taps on the device's screen. Data are stored in the device and then encrypted and sent to secure online databases under our control.

All uses of the data

The information we collect is used only for research purposes and your identity is never revealed. Uses of the data may be to produce research articles (both peer-reviewed and not peer-reviewed), manuscripts, research posters, student theses, research briefs, and presentation at research meetings. Data are shared only with academic researchers approved to work on the research study.

Third Parties

We do not share data with analytics tools, advertising networks and third-party SDKs. All researchers on our team follow the same or equal protection of user data as stated in the app’s privacy policy and required by these Guidelines.

Data retention

Data are retained for research purposes indefinitely. If a user wants to stop participating in the research study, the user can uninstall the app and no additional data will be collected.

Information Protection

We use reasonable security measures to protect against the loss, misuse, and alteration of the formation under our control. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure.
